Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the food festival held?
The site is in the centre of Menai Bridge, on Ffordd y Ffair and the recreation field behind the library.
What are the opening hours?
We open the festival at 10am both days,
Saturday closing is 6pm, Sunday closing is 5pm.
How much is entry?
Admission to the festival is £5 per day, under 16s are free with an accompanying adult.
Can I leave and return to the festival site?
Yes, wristbands will be given to people who wish to leave and come back. Last admittance to the site will be 5pm on Saturday, and 4pm on Sunday.
Do you accept card payments, or will I need cash?
We do accept cash and card on entry as do most of the vendors, however at times of high traffic the card reader signal can be unreliable so we recommend bringing both cash and card where possible. In previous years the card machines in Menai Bridge have run out of cash quite early on in the day so we advise withdrawing money beforehand is a safer option!
Where can I park?
We have a dedicated park and ride service which runs throughout the day from our parking site at David Hughes (LL59 5SS). Cars may be left at the David Hughes school car park overnight if needed, however cars left at the school aren’t manned by security so left at owners risk.
The disabled car park is behind Evans Bros on the high street (LL59 5ED).
Is the site disabled friendly?
We have designated disabled parking and dedicated stewards on hand to assist with any issues/queries.
Disabled parking is on a first come first served basis, but the park and ride at ysgol David Hughes school also has a wheelchair accessible ramp on the bus should it be required.
Please be aware that most of the festival is on a field so we can’t guarantee the terrain will be wheelchair friendly.
We understand that not all disabilities are visible and visitors are welcome to leave and return should they require space and quiet time.
We have accessible toilets on site.
Are dogs allowed in the food festival?
We welcome dogs on short leads into the festival, but afraid not into the marquees. There are fresh water bowls and bags available at the entrances and dotted around the festival site. Please clean up after your dog.
If you are using the free car parks you will need to walk to the food festival site as they are not permitted on the bus (approximately a 10 minute walk away).
Where do I get my bus from as wood street bus station is closed?
The road closure will be in place from Midday on Friday and re-opens at midnight on Sunday. Highways have informed us that the bus stop will be at Waitrose during this time, you may wish to contact your bus service for more information.
Where can I charge my Electric vehicle as I can’t get to the one on wood street?
The nearest car parks are Canolfan Beaumaris LL588AL, noddfa car park Amlwch LL68 9ET station yard car park Llangefni Ll777ND, Town Hall car park Llangefni LL777LR, Pen ye orsedd business units LL7JA, Anglesey business centre LL77 7XA, Penrhos industrial estate LL65 2FD.
Why do we have to pay to enter?
Putting on a festival is expensive and the costs of running events have gone up massively in recent years, many local events, such as Conwy Feast, are no longer running because of this.
Our costs include, but are not limited to: the hire of the field from the town council and car parking areas, the exhibitors marquees, the stage, electric, toilets, waste management, insurance, the first aid team, advertising, event safety equipment, licensing , music , security and event staff. This runs into tens of thousands of pounds and if we charged the exhibitors enough to cover the huge cost of running the event it wouldn’t be worth them coming.
We have tried to make ticket prices as reasonable as possible and included parking charges and bus shuttle (if you wish to use them) in the ticket price and kept children free.
There are other local events of a similar nature which cost up to four times the price of our event. We also understand that some smaller food festivals are ‘free’ - however these festivals are put on by local councils and use their own budget which comes from the public purse, or don’t incur the same costs as they are a much smaller scale. Where we can, we do support local businesses and charities especially those who have helped us through volunteering over the event (without volunteers we have to hire in additional event staff).
